North Shore Pie Co opens wholesale location in Etobicoke, the first of it’s kind
Toronto’s most popular savoury pie shop, North Shore Pie Co, has Etobicoke residents—and Ontario—cooking with excitement. In April 2017, the popular bakery will officially open it’s doors to the public, a strategic move in the company’s goal to bring New Zealand pies to Canadians.
“In New Zealand we eat meat pies like a Canadian would eat poutine; it’s a comfort food to help us get through the day,” says Anthony Spinley, owner of North Shore Pie Co. “When we first opened we saw an opportunity to share this tradition with Toronto. Luckily it was a success and since day one we’ve been seeing an incredible demand, often outside of Toronto’s core. Our expansion helps us keep production centralized for the Toronto (Roncesvalles) retail store, while also creating enough production for the rest of the province.”
The modern facility, equipped with an almost 2,000 square foot kitchen, allows the company to keep up with the rapid demand; the space enables residents, golf clubs, banquet halls and event centres to make bulk orders that can serve up to 1,000 people at any given time. The move also allows their head baker from New Zealand to have full control over production, ensuring 100% authenticity and quality with every bake.
The Etobicoke space boasts a beautiful, New Zealand decorated retail and small seating area in the front, and a conference room that seats 20 people. In the back is a freezer capable of housing 1,000 pies at a time. Walk in customers can purchase the usual selection of pies and New Zealand style desserts paired with coffee. Though the company is quickly growing its wholesale clients, Spinley says small orders will be treated with just as much care.
A select of pie flavours include mince, veggie (vegan), butter chicken, steak and cheese, mince and cheese, and more. Pies come available in bite-size pies, individual pies or family pies. Prices range from $2.50 to $17.
