Meet On Q: 10 questions with Peter Turkington

Explain what you do at On Q Communications?

I manage media relations for our clients here at On Q. In addition to securing media coverage, that also includes media coaching of spokespeople, key message development, providing on-site support at interview opportunities and basically anything else that helps clients tell their stories clearly.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Time travel. There never seems to be enough hours in the day and having the ability to pause time or go back could really help improve the work-life balance by creating plenty of time for both work and play.

What’s your favourite spot in Toronto?

I seem to spend the most time on the Gardiner Expressway as I travel in from Oakville. But that’s not my favourite spot. I’d have to say I really like the theatre district. Hitting up some of the great restaurants and catching a live show is always a fun evening.

Finish this sentence: I can’t start my day without?

Coffee and scanning the news to find out what’s going on in the world.

Describe yourself in three words?

Focused, ambitious, caring.

What do you work towards in your free time?

Free time? What’s that? But seriously…I volunteer with Big Brothers. I think it’s important to give back and be a role model.

If there is any advice you would give a person, what would it be?

Listen to yourself when you’re giving advice to other people. Often you could benefit from the same words.

You’re the new addition to a crayon box, what colour would you be?

Green. I’m Irish…what can I say 😊

What skill would you like to master?

With video playing more and more of a role in PR, it would be interesting to learn more about the production side of things and how to more fully incorporate video in to communications activities.

What makes you a unique, dynamic team member?

In the fast-changing environment of public relations, I think my ability to step back and view the big picture helps guarantee that we don’t lose sight of our communications goal – no matter how crazy things may get.
