In one sentence explain what you do.

I find great places for families to explore.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Like many moms, I get my kids up and off to school and then head home to work. Most days involve writing about destinations and hotels we have recently visited and researching new places to go. Some days involve meeting with public relations companies, travel companies and destinations to discuss possible partnerships.

What has been the biggest surprise in your career so far?

I am often surprised by the effect my writing has on other people’s travel plans. I love hearing from readers and friends who have booked trips due to my recommendations. I also love seeing photos and hearing their reviews.

What is your biggest challenge these days?

I think like most bloggers, my biggest challenge is time management. I’m often asked to be on Twitter parties and attend events during the evening when I also would like to be with my kids. I think finding a balance is important.

What celebrity would you invite for drinks?

Matt Damon. He moved into my neighbourhood this summer while filming Downsizing and he just seems to be a very legit human being. He also has a new puppy (who would also be invited). A little know fact is that I named my older son after Good Will Hunting.

What are you raving about these days?

In general, the city of Toronto. I spend so much time away and each time I return, I fall in love with Toronto again. I spend a lot of time roaming the streets and finding little gems that I can share on Twitter and Facebook.

What advice do you have for our readers who are looking to start a blog?

I sort of fell into blogging as a way to just share what we were already doing with friends and family. I guess I would say don’t start a blog unless it’s about something you really love. There’s a lot of setbacks and hard days and if you aren’t fully invested, it may not succeed. Also judge your successes by your own standards and don’t compare yourself with others. As long as you’re happy, keep going. There’s new surprises around every corner.
